The number of various dangerous occupational injuries that occurred in 2015 in America has increased since 2008 as per the report released by the American bureau dealing with all issues surrounding labor matters in the state. However, forty years ago had been worse than this because according to the statistics, fourteen thousand people died every year mainly because there was a lot of ignorance in the workplace in favor of profits by both the employers and the employees. Currently, every employer has the mandate to ensure that safety is guaranteed to every worker in an organization so as to avoid unnecessary accidents to the workers’ health.
Although Occupational Safety and Health Administration is there to assist workers in ensuring quality safety working environment in their workplace, technology also has a bigger role to play in the fight to improve working conditions in all sectors of production which are mainly manufacturing, processing, assembling and in the extraction of minerals. Many technological advancements have taken place in many working environments and have had great positive implications in the improvement of the workers’ safety.
There has also been a great improvement in the modern communications which has made it easier to keep track of workers and also helping in knowing where the workers are in the times of accidents and crisis. Digital means of communications can help improve working safety in the following situations. Some advancements like GPS contributes a lot in the time of crisis where they help in tracking the workers when kidnapped or even when involved in any accident. In case there is shooting in any organization, GPS helps the law enforcement officials to locate the workers and hence saving them. Many employees can escape danger by sending and linking emails to each other during crisis.
Another technological advancement which helps in the improvement of workers’ safety is the availability of robots and the internet which have greatly contributed to saving many lives in the workplace. In environments where there are high risks of accidents occurring, the workforce can always be taken out and replaced by robotic power.
The safety rules and warnings in an organization tend to be ignored by many workers due to that feeling of satisfaction which at the end results to great losses due to numerous accidents, deaths, injuries and damages that occurs.
Technological advancements plays a great role in the workplace by minimizing various risks, accidents and deaths. Technology warns both managers and workers when various working machines are reaching the end of their lifespan and when they are not functioning so that they are replaced and improved before an accident occurs.
Any organization should focus on investing in better technology for its future benefits in terms of its workplace safety and the health of its workers. For any organization to run well the workers’ health should not be optional but a right.
